Pre-operation Check

Purpose

The Pre-operation Check Guideline is established to provide the firefighters and other authorized District personnel with a safe viable procedure to perform prior to moving District apparatus.

Scope

The Pre-Operation Check SOP is created to provide the Fire District with a viable, safe, and consistent procedure for personnel engaged in moving District apparatus in emergency and non-emergency situations.

Responsibility

It shall be the responsibility of all Fire District personnel to ensure that the intent of this order be followed.

Procedure

All District personnel shall assure safe movement of District apparatus by performing the following check out procedures prior to moving apparatus.

Personnel shall conduct a 360 degree walk around of the apparatus. During the walk around, personnel shall:

  • Remove all lines and hoses connected to the apparatus
  • Check and secure all compartment doors
  • Do a visual check above and around the apparatus
  • Visually confirm the bay door is fully open
  • Make sure vehicle has water

All procedures applicable shall be performed prior to moving any District apparatus.

Violation of this policy is subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination covered in the disciplinary action SOG.
