Disciplinary Action
Purpose
The Disciplinary Action Guideline is created to provide a way for the Fire District to deal with discipline issues involving District personnel.
Scope
The Disciplinary Action Guideline is created to provide a viable, consistent procedure for the District to enforce disciplinary measures and to assure District personnel of due process in disciplinary issues.
Responsibility
Disciplinary actions will be considered any time a violation including, but not limited to, the following occur:
District SOP/SOG’s
District Policy
Civil Law
Criminal Law
Code of Ethics
Insubordination or willful disregard for citizens or other emergency personnel
Procedure
The graduated steps of Discipline listed below will serve as a guideline for all disciplinary actions. All violations will be evaluated on an individual basis. The senior staff of the Fire District will review all disciplinary issues and make recommendations.
If, in the opinion of the senior staff, the magnitude of a violation warrants disciplinary action greater than the next graduated step, any or all steps may be superseded.
The graduated disciplinary action steps may be as follows:
- Verbal counseling: to be documented in writing and placed in personnel file.
- Verbal warning: to be documented in writing and placed in personnel file.
- Written warning: to be placed in personnel file.
- Probation: May be assessed for any length of time and/or conditions. Must be documented and placed in personnel file.
- Suspension and/or demotion: Suspension may be assessed for any
length of time and or conditions. Demotion may be the revoking of any District held rank or duty for any length of time. - Termination from the District.
- Termination with condition: Never to be allowed back as a member or employee of the District in any capacity.
All documents being entered into a personnel file must have the signature of the individual involved or be accompanied by a written refusal statement witnessed by a third party.
