Critical Incident Stress Management Protocol
Purpose
This program has been designed by professionals throughout our nation for the emotional and physical well being of all Fire and EMS personnel. The purpose of CIS debriefing is to allow Command Staff to determine if a Critical Incident Stress Management procedure is needed.
Scope
This SOP shall be applicable to all District Fire and Medical personnel.
Responsibility
It shall be the responsibility of all District personnel to ensure that the intent of this order is followed.
Procedure
The Nestucca Fire District shall implement a Critical Incident Stress Management procedure as follows:
Command staff will be responsible for notifying the CISM personnel that an immediate evaluation is required and set date and time as soon as possible.
The criteria for a CISM shall be based on the following:
- Any line of duty death of personnel.
- Any death of a patient/victim under the age of 20.
- Any incident that requires a lengthy extrication of patients.
- Any on-scene display of distress by one or more Fire/EMS personnel.
- Any other incident the Incident Commander deems necessary for an evaluation.
Any Fire/EMS personnel feeling the need for help are encouraged to contact a trained CISM person.
Violation of this policy is subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination covered in the disciplinary action SOG.
