Cadet Response Guidelines
Purpose
The purpose of the cadet program is to enhance service to our customers. The purpose of the Cadet Response Guideline is to provide the District with guidelines to manage their response to emergencies.
Scope
The Cadet Response Guideline is created to provide a viable, constant means for the cadets to respond to emergencies within the operational plan of the District.
Responsibility
It is the responsibility of all District personnel and all cadets to assure responses are within the District's guidelines.
Procedure
Cadets may respond to emergencies within the following guidelines:
- Cadets must obey all traffic laws, signs, and traffic control devices.
- Cadets must obey all speed limits and shall not ask for the right of way by using hazard or warning lights.
- Cadets must have signed parental permission to respond to emergency calls.
- Cadets must have a signed permission slip, in advance, from the school in order
to respond from school. Cadets must also be in good standing in
school to participate in the cadet program or have made special
arrangements with the District and the school.
- During school hours, Cadets may wear Fire District pagers if written permission is granted by the school to the District and by the District to the Cadet.
- Pagers must be set and maintained in the alert mode during regular school hours.
- During school hours, Cadets will respond only at the request of a District Officer.
- Cadets may respond only to those calls that are judged reasonable by any of the following:
- Calls in their stations immediate response area
- Calls that they are near at the time of the tap out
- Mass casualty or long duration incidents
- When asked by a District Officer acting on behalf of the District
- Cadets will be subject to District disciplinary policies for violations of these guidelines.
